Humans must box, categorize. It is who we are. It helps to say this one is a man, and this one is a woman and leave it at that. And so our images of ourselves start to feel like that. A picture of a man, or a woman, that kinda looks like a specific person. But I believe people are first people. Completely unique, all the way from our DNA to our souls and then resembling the collective only so much. I wish to paint people like that.
My name is Caluba, and in the year 2024, I painted over 90 volunteers nude, trying to capture their unique essences. I am still a learner of observation, and a student of individual beauty but it is my goal to showcase the beauty of everything I see, as if it were the only thing in its own unique box. I lived in Nigeria until January 2025, when I moved to Winnipeg, Canada, and the courage of my daring muses created an incredible collection that allowed me to explore nakedness in a very restrictive culture.
My muses receive a percentage of every print sold as a gesture of gratitude for allowing me to reveal their essence to the world. Ultimately, my goal is simple: to paint everyone, honoring their individuality in its purest form.
